Woodworking

The Wood Workshop course is intended to build on the fundamentals of design and manufacturing technologies for wood production. With the guidance of Marcela’s instructor, Christian Blyt, Marcela and her team developed a product for Vancouver Special, a design store located in Main St, Vancouver. The product had to be made out of wood and had to retail for under $50. After completing the entire design process, Marcela and her team managed to create the “slice knife block”, a knife holder that interactively allows users to insert the knife into the block. Once the knife is inserted, a set of magnets within the blog safely holds the knife making it look as it is levitating.  The product was such a success that even after 1 year of launching the product in Vancouver Special, Anne Pearson, the owner of the store, continues to order more Knife Blocks.

Slice Knife Block

A clean block of wood is sliced into segments by knives that seem to float in midair.
